Trading strategies explained step by step: the idea, the rules, the risks, and Slav's mistakes. Learn them, test them, never copy them blindly.
Dollar-Cost Averaging into an Index Fund
Invest the same amount on a fixed schedule into a broad index fund, no matter what the market is doing. The simplest strategy, and often the hardest to stick with.
Moving Average Crossover
A trend-following strategy: buy when a faster moving average crosses above a slower one, and exit when it crosses back below. Simple rules, but it struggles in sideways markets.
Support and Resistance Bounce
Buy near a price level where buyers have stepped in before (support), with a tight stop just below it. A classic way to learn reading charts and placing logical stops.
Breakout and Retest
Instead of chasing a breakout, wait for the price to come back and "retest" the broken level, then enter with a stop on the other side. Fewer trades, fewer fake-outs.
Opening Range Breakout
A day-trading strategy: mark the high and low of the first minutes after the market opens, then trade a breakout of that range with a tight stop. Fast, rule-based, and unforgiving of hesitation.
